PA Requirements

5 Characteristics of a PA

In order to be a Program Aide Level 1 (PA1), the applicant must demonstrate the following 5 characteristics in the 2023-2024 School Year:

  • Positive Attitude

  • TEAM Player (Together Everyone Achieves More)

  • Manages emotions appropriately

  • Respect Authority

  • Appropriate Language

These characteristics are explained in detail on the page 5 Characteristics of a PA, and applicants are expected to be familiar with the specifics. ALL levels of PA, staff and volunteers are expected to demonstrate these characteristics. In addition, all campers, PAITs and PAs must sign a Behavior Agreement (found within Registration or downloadable here).

 PA1

  • Entering Grade 8 or above

  • Under 18 years of age

  • Register as a Girl Scout

  • Completed PAIT program, GSOSW Core PA Workshop or equivalent GS training, plus at least 1 year experience as a group leader

  • Turn in all necessary Day Camp Registration forms, including a letter of recommendation

  • PA1 Application accepted

  • Fully attends the 2-day PA1 Training Session -- Friday evening and Saturday, May 16 & 17 or June 13 & 14.

  • Attends full week of Day Camp

  • Has demonstrated ability to work independently with a group of girls

  • Demonstrates the 5 Characteristics of a PA

Your letter of recommendation from a trusted reference should help us understand how you demonstrate the 5 Characteristics of a PA. Thus we recommend sharing the 5 Characteristics with your reference so they can address these in their letter.

 PA2

  • Entering Grade 9 or 10

  • Under 18 years of age

  • Register as a Girl Scout

  • Served as a PA1

  • Turn in all necessary Day Camp Registration forms

  • PA2 Application accepted

  • Fully attends the 2-day PA2 Training Session -- Friday evening and Saturday, May 16 & 17 or June 13 & 14.

  • Attends full week of Day Camp

  • Shows mastery of and can teach specific outdoor skills such as tying a square knot, knife safety, fire building & safety, three age-appropriate games and songs, pitching and taking down a tent.

  • Demonstrates the 5 Characteristics of a PA

  • Entering Grade 11 or 12

  • Under 18 years of age

  • Register as a Girl Scout

  • Served as a PA2

  • Turn in all necessary Day Camp Registration forms

  • PA3 Application accepted

  • Fully attends Camp Staff Training Session -- Tuesday, July 8.

  • Attends full week of Day Camp

  • Has demonstrated ability to lead a group of girls over a period of time

  • Has demonstrated ability to lead a group in camp activities while maintaining a safe environment 

  • Shows mastery of and can teach specific outdoor skills such as tying a square knot, knife safety, fire building & safety, three age-appropriate games and songs, pitching and taking down a tent.

  • Demonstrates the 5 Characteristics of a PA
